It was opening night for the Hercules sponsored Solway Sharks as they hosted the Sheffield Steeldogs at the Shark Tank
Both teams put their respective netminders to the test in a fast-paced and energetic opening period. Calum Hepburn was starting netminder for the Sharks this evening.
Steeldogs get opening goal to get take 1st period lead.
After the puck was almost moved out of the defensive zone, Bissonnette caught it, played it low, and was bundled in by Spurr for the Steeldogs’ first goal of the game, giving them a 1-0 lead (18.01).
The Sharks appeared to be powerful on the puck, creating chances and having a lot of puck control. Henderson, Dunbar, and Peacock all had chances, but none were successful.
Steeldogs add a second in the second period to double the lead.
The Steeldogs won the offensive zone face off and scored their second goal of the night. Vulkanovs used his strength to keep the Sharks defenseman at bay, then released the puck, which fell into the stick of Brownley, who slotted it in to make it 0-2 (30.40).
Sharks get a goal on the board but Steeldogs hit twice to seal the win!!
We came to expect high-intensity hockey from both teams in this game, and it was still present in the final frame. Both teams generated opportunities as the game went back and forth.
Brownley scored goal number three for the Steeldogs in the final 10 minutes of the game, making it three straight goals for the Steeldogs with another assist from Bissonnette (53.13).
Struan Tonnar and Ross Murray did excellent work with the puck to locate Lewis Young and make it 1-3 heading into the game’s final five minutes as the Sharks continued to press for a goal (53.49)
The Steeldogs scored the game’s final goal, which was scored by Tom Palmer, as the Sharks continued to press for one more goal in an effort to stage a comeback in the game’s final five minutes (54.02)
