The Solway Sharks are delighted to announce the addition of right-handed forward, Ruairi Lockerbie for the 2022-23 season.

Lockerbie returns to the Sharks after being part of the treble winning team from last season and playing his part with 4 goals and 9 assists in 25 games as well as another 2 goals in the NIHL Cup.

The 22-year-old, Dumfries born forward is another product of the Solway Sharks Junior Development Program before spending 2 seasons at OHA Canada as part of his development. Ruairi has not only spent time in Canada, but he has also represented Scotland at every age level from U11 to U19 at the EIHA Conference tournament as well as representing GB U16’s in Madrid, playing 5 games and scoring 1 goal and 1 assist.

Ruairi is a player who brings skill and composure on the puck and is always looking to create scoring chances. He had a good year last year and will be expected to kick on to that next level and continue to make an impact as the team go in hunt of more trophies. He is someone who knows the club, the standard expected and embraces the challenge of winning and we are happy to see him commit for another season.

On his return to the club, Ruairi stated “I am excited to get the season going again after our success of last year. Winning the treble was a great achievement and we want to make sure we are ready to defend our titles. I have been working hard this summer to make sure I hit the ground running and I know I can contribute more and make a bigger impact this season and can’t wait to play in front of our fans again. This team has high standards, but it is also a fun place to play and we have a good dressing room which has helped us achieve the treble and we all want to continue the winning run we are on and I am sure the players and coaches will make sure that happens”.

Sharks Head Coach Martin Grubb stated “Ruairi is a player who has bags of skill and loves to play the game and we know there is more to come from him this season. He is someone who has come through our junior pathway and graduated to senior hockey and has also shown the ability to play international hockey with GB as well as playing in the Elite League with Braehead Clan and we want that type of player as part of our group, and we sometimes forget he is only 22. He has a desire to compete, improve and win and his attitude is always team first and I think we will see a stronger player next season and see much more of an skilled, impact guy this year and we look forward to having him back”.

Ruairi will wear the number 9 jersey that has become familiar for him for the upcoming season and his jerseys are available to own and loan now. Please email sharkssecretary@aol.com to discuss the owned and loaned packages available.
