Struan Tonnar

The Dynamic Property Services Solway Sharks are pleased to announce the appointment of Struan Tonnar as an Assistant Coach for the 24/25 Season.

Joining Jamie Thomson on the bench as an assistant coach this season is our iconic captain, Struan Tonnar, who is stepping into coaching after retiring from playing at the end of last season. Struan needs no introduction to the club; he is our leading appearance maker, goal scorer, and point leader, having been a Shark his entire career. He led the club in its inaugural season in the National League and, after deciding to stop playing, wanted to continue his role with the club in a coaching capacity. Struan has played for Martin and Jamie during the most successful part of his career, and we are thrilled to have his enthusiasm, experience, and leadership qualities on our coaching staff. We are excited to welcome Struan to the coaching team.

Martin Grubb had this to say about Struan Tonnar and his new role with the club:

Bringing Struan onboard is an exciting move for us as a club and I really want to see him start his coaching journey and pass his experience on to the players as this club is not the same without him. We have been talking most of the summer to make this move happen and ensure that we can utilise Struan’s skills to help us improve and I really think this new group can help the players lots and we will all work well together as we want to develop the winning mentality at this level and having Struan and JT beside me is a huge start for us.”

Struan Tonnar had this to say about his transition into coaching for the club:

I am really excited about continuing with the club that I have loved since I was a kid. We grew into the league last year and now we have to find ways to make these wins happen more consistently. Martin and Jamie have a wealth of experience so to learn from them in this role is really exciting.”
