The Building Craftsmen Solway Sharks are proud to announce the latest addition to our wall of fame.
Alan Crane (Craner) has been a long-standing leader for our club who’s career was left short due to a horrific eye injury while playing during the 15/16 season.
Craner started his junior career in Dumfries before spending some time in America developing his trade, returning home to be a main stay of the team and becoming team and club captain following the retirement of Mark Gallagher.
A popular guy in the room, his clear mind and presence on the ice was infectious as he led the club to more success. Alan was a key part of the team during the success in the Northern Premier League, NIHL Championships, SNL titles and Scottish Cup to name but a few. It was during a home match against the Billingham Stars that brought Alan’s career to an end. A stray shot to the face as part of his defensive duties saw his career come to an end.
Freak incidents like this show the high risks that come with the sport and as a Club we would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to Alan for his commitment and dedication which helped pave the way to success.
Alan Cranes #19 shirt now hangs in the bar upstairs at the Ice Bowl along with Bob Chalmers, Mark Gallagher, Gordon Whyte and Ross Edgar.
