The Hercules ice hockey apparel sponsored Solway Sharks welcomed the Sheffield Steeldogs to the Shark tank on Sunday afternoon in the Sharks Pride Night game, with the Sharks wearing their limited edition rainbow style jerseys which were Auctioned after the game.
It was a bright start from both sides with the Sharks probably edging the changes created, and with penalties on both sides called both power plays had opportunities to take the lead. The home side though they had opened the scoring at around the midway point of the period when the puck found the back of Zimozdra’s net but the officials had adjudged the goal to have been knocked off its moorings before the shot came and it was called as a no goal. It was the visitors that found the net next as Matt Bissonnette scored a powerplay goal past Curtis Warburton and fire his team into a 1-0 lead at the end of period one.
The Sharks came out in the second period looking to take the game to the travelling Steeldogs and their pressure was rewarded at the half way point of the period when John Dunbar found Caly Robertson and Robertson forced the puck passed Zimozdra to tie things up at 32.05. The visitors weren’t happy at the game being tied up and they forced theirselves back in front through a shorthanded Johnathan Philips goal and then added a 3rd goal through Jason Hewitt to take a 3-1 lead into the final period.
The Sharks answered back 9 minutes into the 3rd period when Mason Alderson converted from an Olivier Arseneau pass, but with long periods of play without a whistle and the clock running down on the sharks chances, they called their time out and pulled Curtis Warburton, they were able to get good attacking zone puck possession and pile pressure on the Steeldogs net, but Zimozdra done enough to keep the sharks at bay, and with only seconds remaining the Steeldogs were able to force a break out and James Spurr fired from centre ice into the empty net and seal the win 2-4 for the Steeldogs.
