The Solway Sharks are delighted to announce the return of right-handed forward, Connor Henderson for the 2022-2023 season after taking a break from hockey last season.
Henderson returns to the Sharks after coming through as part of the club’s junior development program before moving overseas to OHA Canada then Michigan before returning to the club. Connor then went on to play in the NIHL National League with Leeds Chiefs before taking a year out of the sport. He has also represented GB at both U18 and U20 levels at World Championships.
The 24-year-old, Dumfries born forward is a player who has speed, skill, and an ability to contribute offensively, and the supporters will be aware of his attributes having iced in 87 senior games as a Shark and scoring 102 points. Henderson has won league and playoff titles as a Shark and will be looking to add to that this season. He has also had success on the international scene with GB U18’s winning a bronze medal in Estonia.
On his return to the club, Connor stated “I am excited to get the season going again and get back on the ice with the team. I have obviously played here throughout my junior years and progressed into the senior team and have experienced success here and very much want to help continue bringing trophies to the club. I have experienced some time away at Leeds and then time out on the back of Covid but after talking to Martin I wanted to get back to enjoying playing hockey and showing the abilities I have that will help this team. I seen the success the Sharks had last year, and I want to make sure this years team experiences the same feelings and can win for the excellent supporters we have at the club. I am excited to get back on the ice and show everyone what I am capable off and get the season underway”.
Sharks Head Coach Martin Grubb added “Connor is a player I have known and coached for a long time, and we are delighted to be bringing him back to the club. He is someone who skates well, has speed, skill and will add to the offensive options we have throughout our line-up. He has always shown that he can put up numbers and we will be looking for him to come in, gain his confidence again and get back to the levels that saw him get his move to Leeds at the National League level. Connor knows the club and the expectation levels here and will slot straight back into the group as if he’s never been away and we are all excited to have him back at the club. We had a good chat over the summer, and I know how much he is looking forward to playing again and we are excited to have him back in a Sharks uniform.”.
Connor will wear the number 25 jersey that had become familiar for him in his last spell at the club for the upcoming season and his jerseys are available to own and loan now. Please email sharkssecretary@aol.com to discuss the owned and loaned packages available.
