The Solway Sharks are delighted to announce the return of all action, treble winning forward, Callum Boyd for the 2022-23 season.
Boyd is back with the Sharks after joining last season from Murrayfield Racers and he played in 26 games last season and contributed 41 points in total as he picked up a league, playoff and National Championship winners medals.
The 28-year-old right-handed forward is no stranger to winning as he was an EIHL Gardiner Conference winner with Braehead Clan in 2016 before winning the SNL with Murrayfield in the 2018-19 season. He then scored the winner in the NIHL Cup semi against the Sharks in 2019-20 before going on to score the overtime winner in Whitley to win that trophy for the Racers.
Last season Callum came in and showed from day 1 how committed he was with his hardworking and physical style of play and was a constant thorn in the side of opponents. This instantly made him a favourite with the Sharks fans and when he showed his speed, skill, and desire to win he was always going to be a key player for the team.
His character meant he slotted into the group like he had played here for years, and he scored some big goals at big times and showed how valuable he was to the team. Callum was also on a 2-way with Glasgow Clan last year showing how highly he is still thought of by that club at the EIHL level and we are all excited to see him return as a Sharks once again.
On his return to the Sharks, Callum commented “I am excited to be back in the Shark Tank for the upcoming season. We had a great season last year but there is unfinished business missing out on the cup. I’m looking forward to coming back and will be looking to win that trophy as well as defending the others that are ours! We have a great bunch of boys and staff in Dumfries so it’s a fun environment to play in and I look forward to playing in front of our great fans again. I have been working on myself over the summer and hoping to have a better season personally and I can’t wait to get back at it. See you all soon. Go Sharks RAWRRRR”.
Sharks Head Coach, Martin Grubb added “We are very happy to be able to confirm the return of Boydy for the season ahead. He had a couple of options this season and wanted to show respect to everyone, but we are happy he is staying here as a Shark. He has a personality that is infectious and is not only a real livewire on the ice but is also great in the dressing room. He came in and showed his speed, skill, ability to score and high energy game and right from the start he was appreciated by players, staff, and fans alike. I know he has said he wants to have a better year as an individual, but we were delighted with what he brought to the group and can’t wait to work with him again to make not only himself but also the team better. He is a winner who loves to compete, and he shares our mentality of wanting to compete and win every game and play at as high a level as possible and I think everyone will see an even better version of Boydy this season and I am excited for that”.
Callum will wear his now familiar number 68 jersey for the upcoming season and his jerseys are available to own and loan now. Please email sharkssecretary@aol.com to discuss the owned and loaned packages available.
