The Solway Sharks are delighted to announce the addition of right-handed defenceman, Travis Lavery for the 2022-23 season.

The 18-year-old, Belfast born prospect is another product of the Belfast Junior Giants Program and last season he played SNL with the Giants as well as some u19 games with the Sharks u19 team. He has game through the Scottish leagues with Belfast as well as being part of the SIH National program and this summer has spent time skating with Belfast Giants to help him take the next step in his hockey career.

Travis is a player who loves to compete, skates well and enjoys the physical side of the game and is hungry to succeed. He is someone who works hard and wants to do whatever he can to help his team and has skated with the Sharks as part of pre-season before joining the club for the forthcoming NIHL season.

On his signing for the club, Travis stated “I’m really excited to get the season underway with the Sharks. I know I am coming into a team that has great potential and that showed with the success of last season, and I can’t wait to be a part of adding to that and I feel I’m ready to contribute. Martin and Jamie are both knowledgeable, experienced coaches and I plan to absorb every bit of advice and coaching I receive to better my game. I’ve been lucky to skate with the Giants this summer and been pushing myself hard as I prepare to take the step up and feel this higher-level league will help develop my game as I am surrounded by so many experienced players. I’m excited for the challenge that lies ahead, and I know I am more than ready and can’t wait to do the #92 jersey justice.”

Sharks Head Coach Martin Grubb stated “Travis is a player who has learnt the game as part of the Belfast Giants junior program, and we know the success they have had in recent years. He is a young guy who is desperate to take the next step and better himself and wanted the opportunity to prove he can play at this level. I spoke with Adam Keefe, who has been helping him with his development and we both felt Travis could step up as his compete level is so high, he wants to learn and has impressed the Elite guys with his attitude and effort this summer. Jamie knows Travis from Scotland and he played for our 19’s last season so he knows some guys already and the challenge for Travis is to settle quickly and look to push his way into the line-up and help this team be successful again and I know he will embrace that challenge,”

Travis will wear the number 92 jersey for the upcoming season and his jerseys are available to own and loan now. Please email sharkssecretary@aol.com to discuss the owned and loaned packages available.
