The Solway Sharks are delighted to announce the addition of right-handed forward, Lewis Young for the 2022-23 season.

Young will join the Sharks after splitting the last few seasons between Somang Hockey in the USPHL U18 league in North America, Murrayfield Racers in the SNL/NIHL Cup and most recently, Vasas SC U21 in Hungary

The 19-year-old, Irvine born forward joins the club after gaining valuable experience at home and abroad and is looking to make an impact at senior level with the Sharks. Lewis has not only spent time abroad, but he has also represented Scotland at every age level from U11 to U17 at the EIHA Conference tournament as well as putting up over a point per game in his junior career.

Lewis is a player who brings an experience of different styles of hockey, and he has a desire to come to the club, improve his game, work hard and make an impact straight away. He will bring a great attitude, team first mentality and will chip in with points as he has shown in his junior career, he can put numbers up when the opportunity arises. We are looking forward to seeing Lewis in a Sharks uniform and watching his progress as the season starts and he gets to know the systems that the team use.

On his move to the club, Lewis stated “I am excited to get this opportunity with the Sharks and I can’t wait to get going. Obviously, the team was successful last season in winning a treble and I want to help make sure that carries over to this year and win trophies. I am looking to come in and show the fans my abilities and make sure I can help the team win every night. On a personal note, after a season hindered with injury last season in Hungary, I’d like to get back to playing at my best again, help the team in any way I can, and I feel working with the coaches and players here will allow me to do that. I can’t wait to play in front of the fans and look forward to being part of the club”.

Sharks Head Coach Martin Grubb stated “Lewis is a player I have known for several years, and I have seen him progress to the senior game as a Murrayfield Racer. He done well in his short spell there before moving to firstly Canada and then Hungary to continue developing his game and that spell overseas will have helped him massively. He has been part of the GB 20’s camps so I have seen the ability he has as well as knowing the character he has, and I know he will fit in here and is the type of player we want at the club and will look forward to working with every week. He can play at both ends of the ice, likes to battle for pucks and has skill when in offensive situations and I think he can play up and down the line-up for us. He is a good person and has a team first mentality and I know he wants to come here and make an instant impact and try and win things. I am sure he will do well for us, and our supporters will welcome him and enjoy watching him”.

Lewis will wear the number 14 jersey for the upcoming season and his jerseys are available to own and loan now. Please email sharkssecretary@aol.com to discuss the owned and loaned packages available.
