The Solway Sharks are delighted to announce the return of 5-time NIHL1 North winner Ross Murray for the 2022-23 season.

Murray, who returned to the Sharks after a season away was a key player as the Sharks completed the League, Playoff and National Championship treble and was a player the club wanted back for his experience, ability, and leadership.

The 28-year-old forward is returning to the Sharks determined to continue helping his team win with his all-action style of play and desire to make sure he contributes to the team every night and he has proven year after year that he is a serial winner and is desperate to continue that trend.

Murray will also take on an additional role this season as he will come onboard as an additional assistant coach and will work more closely with the current coaching staff and look to learn from them as he takes the step towards coaching at this level. He has been involved with the kids and wanted to take this step when the time was right and will combine the role with playing.

On his return Ross commented “I am happy to be coming back for another season and really excited with the new role I have and am determined to make an impact both on and off the ice. Last season was a great season for us, and we dominated the league and took that form into the Northern playoffs then went in and showed our class in the National Championship and showed we were the best team in the country at our level. This season it is important for me to make sure we are ready to compete as it still disappoints me, we didn’t win it all so that is my target. I am looking forward to combining the playing and coaching role and learning from Martin and JT as I know they set high standards and I want to help this team keep winning by doing whatever I can, and I am sure we will be competing for trophies again this season as that’s what we do”.

Sharks Head Coach Martin Grubb stated “Ross is a player I really enjoy working with and trust in any situation. We have worked together for a long time, and he knows exactly what I expect of my players, how I think, and we have shared the successes together, so it was an absolute no brainer to make sure he came back. He has been coaching for several years and has a genuine passion for not only winning but also developing players and helping them especially with the small details that make a difference to a team. It was the natural next step for him to work alongside Jamie and I and although he will be coaching, he will also ensure he keeps up his own high standards and continues to demand the same from his teammates as he is desperate to keep winning”.

Ross will wear his familiar number 90 jersey for the upcoming season and his jerseys are available to own and loan now. Please email sharkssecretary@aol.com to discuss the owned and loaned packages available.
